Making Ice Cream

This week in science class we made ice cream. It surprisingly only took four ingredients and only two for the actual ice cream. We had to measure 25 mls sugar and 200 milk. After mixing we put it in a plastic bag and then flip that plastic bag upside down and put it in another one. The next step was to feel a gallon sized plastic bag with a pitcher of snow. Put the smaller plastic bags inside the larger snow filled one. Before closing the larger one add 100 mls of ice cream salt to cause an endothermic reaction from the snow melting. To melt the snow has to take an energy from its surroundings so it cools sugar milk mixture. The next step is to toss it around for about a half hour; this freezes the ice cream evenly.

The thing that surprised me most was how little ingredients were needed. This experiment was not only fun but also very tasty. Afterwords we got to eat the ice cream. Some people said it didn’t  taste very good. Still ours tasted better than normal ice cream though it’s consistency was more like a milkshake.

Questions:

What about tossing the ice cream changes it from normal freezing?

Are there ever other ingredients added besides flavoring and stuff like chocolate chips or cherries?

How differently is gelato or sorbet made?

How is it mass manufactured?

note: I can’t access the images it says it is not compatible with my device.
